The Sun Sets on Paint Night

On October 27,2020, we collaborated with Maria from @artfrom.theheart on an engaging, colorful and uplifting paint experience that gathered an intimate crowd of Vancouver residents. We were so happy to do this with Maria and learn a bit more about her process. She grew up in Minsk and comes from an artistic family. As she said "Whenever words fail me I'm able to express myself through art and to me that's been extremely transformative." Her work draws from life experiences and centers around themes of love, healing and transformation. In this session, she decided to draw on inspiration from the city, from nature, from what Vancouver is known and loved for - its magnificent sunsets. 

Maria admits to loving a "good ombre background" and it was clear that participants, including myself, were onboard. With only the most essential colors, we created a range of colors that calmed our souls and built our beloved city. I admit, I was scared I would mess everything up but Maria was an excellent teacher. You could see her passion as she walked us through each step of the way and she took every opportunity to check in and ensure we were okay. We learned to blend colors, make layers, stars and a moon with craters. This was definitely a one of a kind experience that I highly recommend to anyone! Whether you view yourself as artistic or not, Maria's techniques are easy to pick up and accessible for all. In fact, she has some special Halloween themed paint nights coming up in October so keep an eye out. We will for sure be collaborating with her again in the future!
